Lord Teach Us To Pray is an intensive 20-week experience of praying with scripture based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola moving through the eight themes, graces, and scriptures as outlined in Father John Wickham’s (SJ) Prayer Companion Handbook.
It is designed to deepen your relationship with God helping you grow in intimacy and vulnerability with Him and to strengthen or initiate a personal, consistent prayer life based on His Word, the scriptures. Concomitant with the assigned prayer is a weekly listening/sharing meeting with a facilitator of the program.
There is a commitment of time and effort on the part of the participant. The commitments are:
* Faithfully attend the weekly meetings. If you miss two meetings consider withdrawing from the group so as not to disrupt. The value of this is commitment and constancy.
* Faithfully commit to a regular time of formal prayer with the assigned theme and grace. You will be asked to pray with a specific scripture passage for no less than 30 minutes and no longer than 1 hour.
* Keep a prayer journal and faithfully write down the Theme and the grace for the week, as well as journal daily about your prayer experience and insights and a weekly written review of journal entries.
* Appreciate and commit to the CONFIDENTIAL nature of the sharing that takes place within the sharing/listening group. No names or details are to be mentioned outside of the prayer companion sessions.
